We are continually improving our approach to environmental welfare.
As a minimum, products derived from animals must comply with all applicable legislation relating to animal welfare in the country of production. In addition, we endorse the Farm Animal Welfare Council Five Freedoms Principles. We are collaborating with partners such as Compassion in World Farming, Humane Society International and the Humane League to establish a framework against which we can continually improve our approach to animal welfare.
We do not procure products from animals that have been subject to genetic modification, cloning or growth promoting substances and, where possible, routine antibiotics.
We believe animals should be humanely stunned prior to slaughter and where faith doctrine is relevant, procure products from suppliers holding the appropriate certifications of the faith without compromising product safety, legality or quality. Get in touch to find out more.
Chicken
As of 2018, all raw chicken used at our sites Australia-wide is RSPCA Approved. RSPCA Australia CEO Heather Neil congratulated us on being the first food services company in Australia to meet RSPCA standards, which address the farming conditions, transportation and slaughter of birds. By 2025, we will source 100% cage-free shell eggs and liquid egg products globally.
Fish
We serve only sustainable fish and seafood, with no products being sourced which are listed on the Marine Conservation Society ‘Fish to Avoid’ list (or equivalents).
Beef
We know that sourcing food products from the Amazon biome can impact on deforestation and desertification of the region. We actively seek to reduce our sourcing of products such as soy or beef from this region.
Greenhouse Gas Intensity Ratio
We have focused on lowering our carbon emissions to reduce our impact on the environment and increase operational efficiency since 2008. We measure our Greenhouse Gas emissions to assess our progress. Since 2014, we have reduced our ratio by 18%.
Deforestation
There are four key commodities in our supply chain associated with deforestation. We have taken measures to reduce and be transparent about, our use of these products.
Palm Oil
We support the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and have committed to transparency around the palm oil used in our kitchens. We achieved 100% certified sustainable palm oil use 4 years ahead of our initial target.
Soy
We are a member of the Roundtable for Responsible Soy initiative and have recently begun researching our own global ‘soy footprint’.
Timber & Pulp
By working through the Reduce, Replace, Recycle hierarchy we are reducing the amount of virgin paper and board and increasing the recycled content across the range of timber and pulp products we use. Where available, we have switched to FSC certified paper for our office stationery and are committed to increasing the recycled content of the disposable paperware that we source.
